Oakview Simmentals is a family owned operation located near the Pembina Valley in Southern Manitoba. Todd’s Great grandfather began farming on the home site in 1913 and while the breed of cattle changed from Horned Herefords to Simmentals over the years the presence and importance of cattle never has. Oakview Simmentals officially began in 2004 when we purchased a herd of Purebred Red Simmental cows and combined them with Danna’s Full Fleck females. Over the years we have shown extensively at local summer shows, Manitoba Livestock Expo and attended Agribition. We have continued to build our herd and now calve 250 cows, retain a large number of replacement females and have crop land.

Our herd consists of polled and horned full-flecks, fullbloods as well as polled red Simmentals. We strive to produce females that milk well, have excellent feet and legs and produce powerful replacements and thick bulls. We have been using AI extensively in our herd and flush a handful of females every year.

We have made some exciting additions to our herd sire line up this year with the arrival of the Wheatland Current Affair 494B, WFL Outlaw 4B and PHS Back Woods 317B.  The trio joined the team of herdsires including the powerful Erixon Wellington 133W, our performance polled full fleckvieh bull Fairview Zeus 57Z and our full fleck Crossroad Brigade.

We are very excited for the impact KOP Ms Bengie 6P, (most well known as Kop Crosby’s mom) will make in our red herd.  If the embryo calves that we have on the ground are any indication we are going to have some thick replacement females and powerful sons to sell.  Rolling Acres Red Fern has settled in well to our donor program and we are anticipating the January 2016 arrival of her embryos sired by Houston.  We couldn’t be prouder of DLH Miss Pixie 6P, the foundation female that we have built our Full Fleck herd around. We now have 10 of her natural and embryo daughters walking our pastures and adore their consistency in producing thick powerful calves.

Our Bulls are marketed in March as part of the Oakview, Perkin and Triple R Simmental Bull sale held in Brandon, MB. We sell a group of bred’s and the occasional elite open heifer at the Pembina Triangle Simmental Association Sale held in November in Cypress River, MB.  Furthermore, we offer packages of open and bred commercial as well as purebred females off the yard. We look forward to meeting and visiting with you and welcome all visitors to stop by and take a look through our herd.
